Federal Shrimp Permit Requirement (South Atlantic)

posted in: South Atlantic | 0

NOAA Fisheries recently issued a reminder to shrimpers harvesting penaeid shrimp (white, pink, and brown shrimp) in federal waters of the South Atlantic Region, that for a person aboard a trawler to fish for penaeid shrimp or possess penaeid shrimp in or from federal waters, a valid federal commercial vessel permit for South Atlantic penaeid shrimp is required (50 C.F.R. ยง 622.200).

The South Atlantic Region federal waters are those waters 3-200 nautical miles offshore North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and the east coast of Florida.

A separate federal commercial vessel permit is required to fish for or possess rock shrimp in the South Atlantic Region federal waters.
