Louisiana leads the U.S. in landings of wild crawfish. In 2010, Louisiana commercial fishermen harvested over 14 million pounds of wild crawfish, worth approximately 13.5 million dollars.
Although harvests were down slightly from the previous year, wild crayfish remain an important catch in the state. Louisiana's commercial fishery for wild crawfish has increased dramatically since 2000.
According to Fisheries Economics of the United States, 2009:
Louisiana crawfish landings revenue increased from $684,000 in 2000 to $14.9 million in 2009.
Louisiana crawfish landings increased from 393,000 pounds in 2000 to pounds to 18.6 million pounds in 2009.
During the same period, ex-vessel prices for crawfish decreased from $1.74 per pound in 2000 to $0.81 in 2009.
