According to organizers, the 2009 New Bedford Working Waterfront Festival was a huge success. The Surf and Turf: Fishermen and Farmers theme was popular with enthusiasts.
Highlights included:
* The first ever Working Waterfront Festival Farmers’ Market held on State Pier where visitors could purchase produce from local farms and fresh seafood from local boats.
* A round robin performance on the Main Stage featuring a fisherman poet from Kodiak Alaska, a cowboy poet from Alpine Texas, sea chantey singers from New York City and singing farmers from central New Hampshire.
* Hundreds of visitors climbing aboard working vessels
* Enthusiastic crowds cheering on their favorite fisherman at the Contest Stage
* Cooking Demonstrations featuring: Seafood Stew, Scallop Casserole and Choctaw style fried fish.
* Incredible eats at the Food Courts on both piers
* A contra-dance with most participants in full rain gear
