Several of Ontario’s important commercial fisheries are conducted in inland lakes and river systems. Freshwater commercial fisheries exist in Lake Huron, Lake Ontario, and Lake Superior. Ontario is home to some of the largest commercial freshwater fish processing facilities in Canada.

The Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry sets annual quotas and issues annual licences for the commercial harvest of fish, primarily in the Great Lakes. Other commercial fisheries are managed by Fisheries and Oceans Canada’s Central and Arctic Region.
