My name is Capt. Joe and I am a commercial fisherman in South Florida. I am knowledgeable about many fishing types, fisheries of Florida and gear. If you have a ? just ask I have been working on computers my whole life and this problem mystifies me. My dad worked for IBM for 40 years and he is stumped as well. I need a miracle please help me.

I have MaxSea version 12.1 and i have data from my old PC that had Nobeltec software on it. I really really need to get the .TXT waypoint files from Nobeltec to work and display on MaxSea. It uses file format .WPT to save waypoints and track info. Nobeltec stores them as code in a .TXT is there an accurate way to transfer these files. I have over 600,000 Marks in this info it would take years to do by hand. My Nobeltec is now unuseable as that computer and install disks went through a hurricane. I have my waypoints on a backup cd.

Capt. Joe

Welcome to the site. I hope you get time to share your experiences from Florida with us after you get this problem solved.

I just wondered if you can view the wpt files with a text editor to figure out how they are assembled?

Often these files are basically text files that are comma delimited, tab delimited or similar.

If you can crack the format, you might be able to use Microsoft Excel or a similar program to paste in the data and then save it as delimited text. You might have to open it back up with a text editor once that part is complete and copy the starting and ending lines from a another wpt file.

I have been successful doing this sort of thing but it does take some trial and error to get the formats right. It is time consuming too, but when you are dealing with hundreds or thousands of waypoints it can be worth it.

It would be nice if you had a database tech in the family, a sharp one could knock this out for a few fresh fish.
