In response to a 2010 stock assessment, NOAA Fisheries Service has implemented a rebuilding plan for red grouper.

A 2010 assessment by the Southeast Data, Assessment and Review (SEDAR) process determined red grouper to be overfished and undergoing overfishing.

Actions in Amendment 24 include, among others:

* Annual Catch Limits (ACLs) and Accountability Measures (AMs) for both the commercial and recreational sectors

* An Annual Catch Target for the recreational sector

* Elimination of aggregate ACLs and AMs for black grouper, gag and red grouper for both sectors

NOAA predicts that the plan has an 81% probability of rebuilding the stock in 10 years.
