Pacific Council's Advisory Bodies to Discuss Ocean Salmon Fisheries; October 5-6 in Portland, ORThe Pacific Fishery Management Council's Salmon Technical Team, Scientific and Statistical Committee Salmon Subcommittee, and Model Evaluation Workgroup will meet on October 5-6, 2009, in Portland, OR. The work session will include review of the Klamath River fall Chinook maturity boundary, an assessment of September ocean fishing impacts for Klamath and Sacramento River fall Chinook, an update on methods to forecast ocean abundance of Columbia River fall Chinook, an analysis of bias in Chinook and Coho Fishery Regulation Assessment Models due to multiple encounters in mark-selective fisheries, and proposed changes to the conservation objectives for Puget Sound coho and possibly Oregon coastal Chinook. Pacific Council's Groundfish Management Team to Meet; October 5-9 in Portland, ORThe Pacific Fishery Management Council's Groundfish Management Team will meet October 5-9, 2009, in Portland, OR. The purpose of the meeting is to develop a range of 2011-2011 annual catch limits for groundfish species from new stock assessments and rebuilding analyses, consider recommendations for 2011-12 management measures, consider recommendations for inseason adjustments to 2010 groundfish fisheries, consider recommendations for 2010 exempted fishing permits, among other matters. Pacific Council's VMS Committee to Meet; October 6 in Portland, ORThe Pacific Fishery Management Council's Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) Committee will meet on October 6, 2009, in Portland, OR. The purpose of the meeting is to review performance of the VMS program and develop recommendations that might be implemented through the 2011-2012 biennial specifications process. Pacific Council's Salmon Committee to Develop Alternatives for Annual Catch Limits; October 7 in Portland, ORThe Pacific Fishery Management Council's Ad Hoc Salmon Amendment Committee will hold a meeting to develop draft alternatives and plan analyses for an amendment to the Pacific Coast Salmon Fishery Management Plan, to address the Magnuson-Stevens Act requirements for annual catch limits and accountability measures.
