Obama Administration officials will hold their third regional Ocean Policy Task Force Public Meeting in Providence, Rhode Island on 24 September 2009. The Interagency Ocean Policy Task Force, led by White House Council on Environmental Quality Chair Nancy Sutley, consists of senior-level officials from Administration agencies, departments, and offices.
The Task Force is charged with developing a recommendation for a national policy that ensures protection, maintenance, and restoration of oceans, our coasts and the Great Lakes. It will also recommend a framework for improved stewardship, and effective coastal and marine spatial planning.
Government officials to be in attendance at the meeting include: White House Council on Environmental Quality Chair Nancy Sutley; National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration Administrator Jane Lubchenco; Vice Commandant of the US Coast Guard Vice Admiral David P. Pekoske; Counselor for Science & Public Health in the Department of Health & Human Services Dr. Dora Hughes, and; Department of Interior Associate Deputy Secretary Laura Davis.
The public is encouraged to attend, and an opportunity for public comment will be provided. The event will be held in Ballrooms D and E of the Rhode Island Convention Center, located at One Sabin St., Providence, RI 02903. The one day Ocean Policy Task Force Meeting will begin Thursday, September 24 and will go from 1600 to 1900 HRS.
