The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council is forming a new Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) Advisory Panel (AP) to advise the Council on matters pertaining to the use of VMS in the reef fish fishery and advise the Council on the system’s effectiveness and how the data might be used.

The anticipated time commitment is 1 - 2 two-day meetings per year. Members are not compensated; however travel expenses are reimbursed.

Resumes and letters should be received no later than close of business March 16, 2009.The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council is one of eight regional fishery management councils established by the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act of 1976. The Council prepares fishery management plans designed to manage fishery resources in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of the U.S. Gulf of Mexico.
