On January 14, 2009, NOAA Fisheries Service published a proposed rule for developing identification and certification procedures to address illegal, unreported, or unregulated (IUU) fishing activities and bycatch of protected living marine resources. This rule encourages other nations to cooperate with the United States in efforts to end IUU fishing and reduce bycatch. Written comments may be submitted until 5pm Eastern time on May 14, 2009, at www.regulations.gov.
Public hearings have been scheduled as follows:
March 16, 2009 - Boston, MA
April 6, 2009 - Silver Spring, MD
April 13, 2009 - La Jolla, CA
April 14, 2009 - Seattle, WA
May 12, 2009 - Miami, FL
Please note that the hearing in Silver Spring will take place at the Crowne Plaza, located at 8777 Georgia Avenue (not at the Hilton, as mistakenly published in the Federal Register notice.) More information is available online, or contact Laura.Cimo@noaa.gov.
