The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) is welcoming a new member to its Board of Trustees, adding further expertise, balance and capacity to its non-executive leadership. At its meeting on 11 June 2008 the MSC Board accepted the following changes to its membership:
Mike Boots, Director of the Seafood Choices Alliance, has been elected as a full member of the Board, effective from August 2008.
"SeaWeb's Seafood Choices Alliance works across the seafood sector, collaboratively seeking paths toward a more sustainable industry. In that context, MSC certification is currently the most tangible, independent and widely marketed option available to fisheries to demonstrate responsible practice," said Boots. "I'm delighted to have this opportunity to help shape MSC's ongoing success as it responds to the challenge of operating across complex, global markets."
Wicharn Sirichai Ekawat has completed his term and resigned from the Board following more than five years as a member.
Chairman, Will Martin, commented "We appreciate very much the years of Wicharn's service to the board. He is a colleague and friend, and we will miss him. We are very pleased to have Mike Boots join our board team. Mike's leadership work with Seafood Choices Alliance spans the range of constituencies of the sustainable seafood community, from catchers to processors to distributors to retailers to NGO's. This breadth mirrors the multi-stakeholder approach of the MSC. We look forward to working closely with Mike in advancing the MSC program"
