The Coast Guard, N.C. Marine Fisheries, N.C. Sea Grant and NOAA have scheduled the 6th annual Bluefin Tuna Town Meeting to be held Sept. 25, 2010.

The town meeting will be held at Joslyn Hall in Carteret County Community College 3505 Arendell Street Morehead City, N.C. 28557 from 4 to 6 p.m.

Topics of discussion will cover: proper catching and care for maximum payback, quotas, safety equipment requirements and fishery requirements.

The meeting is free and open to the public.

“We have had boats travel from as far north as New Jersey, and as far south as Florida,” said Barry Everhart, a commercial fishing vessel safety examiner with the Coast Guard. “Due to the unpredictability of the weather in winter months during the fishery, and the size and power of the fish, the safety equipment should be top priority. There is normally a huge fleet that participates in the fishery.”

Anyone, public or media, interested in attending please contact Barry Everhart at 252-247-4526.
