The Annual Bluefin Tuna Town meeting will be held Friday, Dec. 10, 2010. The event is presented by the Coast Guard, North Carolina Marine Fisheries, North Carolina Sea Grant, and NOAA.

4 to 6 p.m., Friday, Dec. 10, 2010

What:

The meeting is free and open to the public.

"We have had boats travel from as far north as New Jersey, and as far south as Florida," said Barry Everhart, a commercial fishing vessel safety examiner with the Coast Guard.

"Due to the unpredictability of the weather in winter months during the fishery, and the size and power of the fish, the safety equipment should be top priority. There is normally a huge fleet that participates in the fishery."
