Delaware State University Cooperative Extension is hosting a workshop series being offered through the Aquaculture Technical Assistance and Outreach Program this summer.
Aquaculture 101
This class, held at the Delaware State University Aquaculture Research & Demonstration Facility will explore aquaculture, the farming of aquatic organisms. The primary goal of the Aquaculture 101 workshop series is to help new and prospective aquaculturists gain the practical knowledge and skills they will need to be successful in aquaculture. Each of the three workshops will provide attendees with an opportunity to learn about aquaculture through hands-on, interactive activities. Three workshops will be offered. Details on each is included below:
1. Stocking
Date: May 20, 2010
Time: 4 to 6 PM
You cannot manage a pond optimally if you don’t know what’s in it. This event will teach participants proper methods of fish handling, counting and stocking.
2. Feeding
Date: June 8, 2010
Time: 4 to 6 PM
Ensuring that your fish have enough of the right kind of food is critical to maintain their growth. Learn to sample your fish, to calculate feed rates and feed conversion ratios.
3. Water Quality
Date: August 11, 2010
Time: 4 to 6 PM
Learn the basics of water quality testing and the important role this plays in keeping your fish healthy.
REGISTRATION:
Participants can attend one or all of the classes. These are designed to be ‘hands-on’ and there is a good chance you may get wet and/or dirty by participating, so please plan accordingly. Classes are FREE, but pre-registration is required.
