The Global Aquaculture Alliance launched its 2008 membership campaign in early January to expand its membership base and improve member services. GAA sent a special mailing to its members to kick off the program.
Corporate members who did not arrange payment for 2008 dues before early January received invoices at that time. Individual members and subscribers to the Global Aquaculture Advocate also received renewal reminders in coordination with their renewal anniversaries.
Following dues payments, corporate members now receive new GAA member packets that fully explain membership and contain copies of the GAA bylaws and other information about contacting the Global Aquaculture Alliance and accessing its programs.
"A GAA goal for this year is to increase meaningful communication among our members," GAA Assistant Director Sally Krueger said. "We are working on collecting company profiles for inclusion in a member directory that will be distributed to corporate members."
Governing Members receive individualized plaques that recognize their support of GAA. New this year, commemorative certificates are sent to Sustaining and Association Members. Multiple copies of each issue of the Global Aquaculture Advocate are also distributed to corporate members.
The discounts for registration fees and sponsorship of Global Outlook for Aquaculture Leadership (GOAL) in 2007 will continue in 2008. Reduced rates for advertising in the Global Aquaculture Advocate will continue, as well.
"Investment in GAA is a statement about being 'part of the solution' in aquaculture," Krueger said "We hope to encourage companies that may have initially joined GAA as Sustaining Members to step up to the Governing Member level."
Extra copies of GAA member packets are available in limited quantities to current members, many of whom have expressed an interest in spreading the word about GAA. To request these and other GAA materials, contact the GAA office -- phone +1-314-293-5500, e-mail homeoffice@gaalliance.org.
